Gershon Gan - Speaker, Commentator and Consultant on Israel and the Middle East

South African born Gershon Gan served as a career diplomat in
Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs for over 30 years, which included diplomatic postings in the US, Europe and Africa. He held a variety of significant positions, such as Ambassador to Zimbabwe and a number of other African countries, Consul for Public Affairs in Boston and New York, Delegate to the UN, and Diplomat in Residence at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University. He has also participated in peace negotiations with both Egypt and Lebanon.

His senior postings at MFA HQ in Jerusalem included directing the efforts to show-case Israel's outstanding literary and artistic talents worldwide. This was followed by a key role at the Centre for International Cooperation - MASHAV, which is responsible for planning and implementing Israel's program of technical and humanitarian assistance to the developing world. His continued involvement with Mashav's activities gives him an ongoing perspective on international development issues, and Israel's role as a donor nation.

Gershon Gan specialized in communications and crisis management during a training period at the international PR consultancy Burson-Marsteller in Washington and London.

He holds a degree in International Relations and History from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

Ambassador Gan has extensive public speaking and media interview experience, maintaining a broad perspective on international affairs, with a special focus on current developments in Israel, the Middle East and Africa. He delivers his lectures with a wide knowledge and authority, and his presentations have been received with much appreciation and enthusiasim. Such has been the response, for instance, to his presentations at the annual Limmud UK International Educational Conferences, where he has lectured a number of times.

In addition to being active as a public speaker in Israel and abroad, most recently in South Africa, and his involvement with Mashav, he is also a senior trainer on the staff of The Negotiations Skills Company, Inc., an international coaching and training consultancy on collaborative decision-making and conflict prevention.

His greatest challenge in public speaking is not to repeat a joke with the same audience.
